COMMENT VALIDATED REFSEQ: This record has undergone validation or
preliminary review. The reference sequence was derived from
            CB118026.1, BF666010.1, AL139819.8, AL138921.14 and BX112121.1.

Summary: This gene encodes a protein with multiple functions. The
encoded protein has been found in association with the centrosome,
shown to co-localize with gamma-tubulin, and also found to be one
of the proteins in the BLOC-1 complex which functions in the
formation of lysosome-related organelles. A pseudogene of this gene
is located on the X chromosome. Alternative splicing results in
multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012].

Transcript Variant: This variant (3) includes an additional
internal exon, compared to variant 1. This variant is represented
as non-coding because use of the supported translational start
codon, as used in variant 1, renders the transcript a candidate for
            nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD).

Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and
genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the
reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the
transcript record were based on transcript alignments.

publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene
            record to access additional publications.
