The reference sequence was derived from BG723076.1, AW976143.1, D88357.1, AC022390.9 and BC107750.1. On Dec 19, 2009 this sequence version replaced gi:195927039. Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. This protein is a catalytic subunit of the highly conserved protein kinase complex known as M-phase promoting factor (MPF), which is essential for G1/S and G2/M phase transitions of eukaryotic cell cycle. Mitotic cyclins stably associate with this protein and function as regulatory subunits. The kinase activity of this protein is controlled by cyclin accumulation and destruction through the cell cycle. The phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of this protein also play important regulatory roles in cell cycle control. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]. Transcript Variant: This variant (2), also known as CDC2 delta T, lacks an alternate in-frame exon in the middle portion of the coding region, compared to variant 1. This results in a shorter protein (isoform 2), compared to isoform 1. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications. ##Evidence-Data-START## Transcript exon combination :: AW976143.1 [ECO:0000332] RNAseq introns :: mixed/partial sample support ERS025084, ERS025085 [ECO:0000350] ##Evidence-Data-END## COMPLETENESS: complete on the 3' end.
