TITLE beta-Arrestin: a protein that regulates beta-adrenergic receptor function JOURNAL Science 248 (4962), 1547-1550 (1990) PUBMED 2163110 COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The reference sequence was derived from CR735690.1, BC003636.2, AP001972.4, AK293758.1, DA358665.1, AL157484.1 and BM681392.1. This sequence is a reference standard in the RefSeqGene project. On Jan 29, 2011 this sequence version replaced gi:58219795. Summary: Members of arrestin/beta-arrestin protein family are thought to participate in agonist-mediated desensitization of G-protein-coupled receptors and cause specific dampening of cellular responses to stimuli such as hormones, neurotransmitters, or sensory signals. Arrestin beta 1 is a cytosolic protein and acts as a cofactor in the beta-adrenergic receptor kinase (BARK) mediated desensitization of beta-adrenergic receptors. Besides the central nervous system, it is expressed at high levels in peripheral blood leukocytes, and thus the BARK/beta-arrestin system is believed to play a major role in regulating receptor-mediated immune functions. Alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms of arrestin beta 1 have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]. Transcript Variant: This variant (1) represents the longer transcript variant and encodes the longer isoform (A). Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications. ##Evidence-Data-START## Transcript exon combination :: BC003636.2, AK289718.1 [ECO:0000332] RNAseq introns :: mixed/partial sample support ERS025081, ERS025082 [ECO:0000350] ##Evidence-Data-END## COMPLETENESS: complete on the 3' end.
