The reference sequence was derived from AK292523.1, DQ234352.1, AC016397.6 and AA808177.1. Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinases act as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals, and are involved in a wide variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation and development. This kinase is activated by various cell stimuli, and targets specific transcription factors, and thus mediates immediate-early gene expression in response to cell stimuli. The activation of this kinase by tumor-necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) is found to be required for TNF-alpha induced apoptosis. This kinase is also involved in UV radiation induced apoptosis, which is thought to be related to cytochrom c-mediated cell death pathway. Studies of the mouse counterpart of this gene suggested that this kinase play a key role in T cell proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation. Five alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]. Transcript Variant: This variant (5) lacks an alternate in-frame segment and uses a different acceptor splice site in the last coding exon compared to transcript variant JNK1-b2, resulting in a frameshift and a shorter isoform (5) with a different C-terminus compared to isoform JNK1 beta2. Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications. ##Evidence-Data-START## Transcript exon combination :: DQ234352.1 [ECO:0000332] RNAseq introns :: mixed/partial sample support ERS025081, ERS025082 [ECO:0000350] ##Evidence-Data-END## COMPLETENESS: complete on the 3' end.
