TITLE [Synthesis of n-substituted beta-methyl DL-aspartates as potential hypocholesteremics (author's transl)] JOURNAL Arch. Pharm. (Weinheim) 308 (7), 564-570 (1975) PUBMED 1164178 COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The reference sequence was derived from AF344883.1 and BC070056.1. Summary: The product of this gene is a member of the GCK group III family of kinases, which are a subset of the Ste20-like kinases. The encoded protein contains an amino-terminal kinase domain, and a carboxy-terminal regulatory domain that mediates homodimerization. The protein kinase localizes to the Golgi apparatus and is specifically activated by binding to the Golgi matrix protein GM130. It is also cleaved by caspase-3 in vitro, and may function in the apoptotic pathway. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full-length nature of some of these variants has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. Transcript Variant: This variant (3) lacks an alternate in-frame exon, compared to variant 1. The resulting isoform (3) is shorter compared to isoform 1, and lacks kinase activity. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications. ##Evidence-Data-START## Transcript exon combination :: AF344883.1 [ECO:0000332] RNAseq introns :: mixed/partial sample support ERS025084, ERS025085 [ECO:0000350] ##Evidence-Data-END## COMPLETENESS: complete on the 3' end.
